Polarity Determination in EBSD Patterns Using the Hough Transformation

Abstract Currently, the automated electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) technique only allows differentiation of Laue groups based on an pattern (EBSP). This article shows that information concerning lattice plane polarity is not stored in EBSP, but also Hough transformed EBSP where it can be easily accessed for evaluation. Polar Kikuchi bands lead to asymmetric peaks during transformation are dependent atomic number difference involved atoms.
